Get Behind Me! by MissusMarler Get Behind Me! by MissusMarler
So... I luffs me some Ulfric, I do.  And so does my Imperial, Alessia.  Thing is, in my head canon, after the war and the MQ, the twain shall never meet and the Moot demands that if Ulfric is to be high king, he must marry Elisif just to try and head off a possible future civil war (future children seeking revenge done to their mama, ya know?).  That's the short version.  If you want to, there's a short fic for that here:  missusmarler.deviantart.com/ar… .

Funny story though... when you can mod your game and do pretty much whatever the hell you want, it's amazing how quickly one's personal head canon goes straight out the window!  So, yeah, in my game I fixed it so Alessia and Ulfric live happily ever after.  And go on dungeon crawls together.  Because that's true love, damn it!  :XD:

Ahem, how the heck is having the frickin' Dragonborn as you wife not a position of strength?
Elisif's kids nuthin. If they're nords, they'd be nuts to try anything against a woman that has dragons as her best friends, and can shout down a mountain.

I mean, really, put your thinking caps on.

I may also be a hardcore Ulfric fan. There's this little Breton dragonborn that has her eye on him....

It's another reason why the jarls demanded that Ulfric marry Elisif.  With both the he and the Dragonborn able to use the Thu'um, and all the other benefits/abilities granted to the Dragonborn, they feared it was too much power concentrated in one place.  I mean, look at it from their point of view.  If Ulfric on his own was willing to kill Torygg to prove a point and make a show of strength, imagine what he'd be willing and able to do with the Dragonborn at his side to keep the jarls in line?  The jarls aren't stupid.  They want to protect themselves from abuses of power and potentially power mad High King.

Besides, Alessia really has no interest in getting tangled up in political quagmires.  She's quite content to spend the rest of her days in relative peace and quiet as the Harbinger.  At least she is in that head canon.

In game she's pretty much staked her claim to him and is happy to tell everyone to go to Oblivion!  :XD:

except, if you played your game right, she's pretty much besties with all of them. If she's any sort of smooth talker, she could have each and every one of them convinced She's their personal leash on 'Ulfric's excesses'

I mean, in my game, i've made thane of nine holds, taken archmage (with very piddlin' magic skills, i might add. I favor stealthbow) and Harbinger. Pretty much, if she wants Ulfric, who are they to try to nay say her?

...which it sounds like you've done, even with an elisif in the way...

Yeah, I know.  I've done all of that before.  What can I say?  I do like angsty unrequited love stories!  That's why I now have my angsty head canon and my in-game canon.  It's essentially having my beefcake and eating it too!

That head canon actually makes good sense, especially given how royal alliances worked in our history.

I could possibly see Ulfric having an affair however, with the possibility of illegitimate children and all the complications involved.

Yeah, it had crossed my mind about him having Alessia as a mistress.  Let's face it, he and Elisif would probably hate the sight of each other and she would only grudgingly give him any heirs.  There'd absolutely be no love there.

Thing is, I don't think Alessia would be happy to be "the other woman".  Not so much because of any moral apprehension about it, but because she would be concerned that any children she would have by Ulfric would simply muddy the political waters, so to speak.  That in and of itself could lead to some skirmishes at the very least later down the line should an illegitimate child decide to challenge a legitimate heir.  That's supposing Alessia would ever be openly honest about who the baby-daddy is, of course.  And this is also assuming that lines of succession are strictly adhered to.  I would think with Ulfric winning the war and the title of High King becoming more than just honorific, he'd make sure that his bloodline would hang onto the throne for as long as possible.

Now I'm getting inundated with possible plot ideas.  Great.  :XD:

I would not be at all surprised if Ulfric and Elisif hated each other, even if Ulfric didn't kill her first husband. In alliance marriages, it was not uncommon for the kind and queen to have separate bedrooms, and I've read of such marriages where the husband and wife had completely different hobbies and so on, so they would only be together while holding court and during other official functions.

Depending on how that worked out, Elisif might not even know Ulfric had another woman.

Although there's no birth control pill in Tamriel, I could see alchemists and healers developing ways to prevent pregnancy, perhaps if Alessia did have an affair with Ulfric, she could consider taking advantage of that.

Hell, I've got Elisif and Ulfric in two separate holds, never mind two separate bedrooms, in my head canon!  :XD:  Probably not wise considering that she might plot something awful behind his back, but he effectively has replaced her previous court with people of his own choosing and more or less has her watched all day, every day.  She's essentially a prisoner in her own palace, which is cruel, but necessary considering her love for the Empire.

I suspect Elisif wouldn't give a damn if Alessia were Ulfric's mistress.  She might even be pleased about it!

And yes, I agree with you that there's probably some concoction that Alessia could take to prevent or stop a pregnancy, but again, I can't see her doing that.  It's just not in her nature.  But, again, that's my head canon.

In game they're happily married and will have lots of sex and babies.  :XD:
